A Welcome Note by our President........
Podiatry is considered as a young profession in Singapore. The first Department of Podiatry was established in 1993 in Tan Tock Seng Hospital with only 1 Podiatrist! Since then, with the support of the Ministry of Health and the public hospitals providing agressive recruitment drives overseas, as well as prestigious scholarships to our brightest students, podiatry services have expanded to almost all hospitals. There are also private podiatry clinics providing specialist foot care such as in the area of sports injury or diabetic foot care. Many of our members are also going beyond their basic degree to pursue Post-graduate Masters and Doctorate degrees.
Our association currently boasts a membership of 44 podiatrists (Jan 2011). Podiatry Association (Singapore) has been and will always be supporting our members with the latest cutting edge continuing professional development programmes, as well as providing a platform to ensure the utmost quality of care is provided by our members. We also review credentials of new applicants who wish to work in Singapore to ensure public safety.
Whilst the scope of practice for Podiatrists in Singapore are still limited compared to our Australian or English counterparts, the future prospects of professional development are promising with the passing of the newly read "Allied Health Professions Bill" in Parliament. Whether you are a person with a foot problem looking for a credible Podiatrist or a student considering a career in podiatry, we welcome you to contact us!
